You might be wondering if babies and young children really do need to wear sunglasses. The answer is a very definite yes!
Wearing sunglasses with proper UV protection will help prevent serious eye damage
What are the risks for children?
They receive 3x the annual sun exposure of adults
They have a much greater risk of developing serious damage to their vision
Their corneas, lenses and fluids are clearer than an adults so are more easily affected
Their eyes allow more short wavelength light to reach the retina which can lead to cataracts
What can you do to protect your child from the sun?
Make sure they wear a hat on sunny days
Keep them in shaded areas between 11am and 3pm
Invest in sunnies, quality protective sunglasses. Your little one will look super cute too!
Apply a generous amount of SPF sunscreen all over. Don't forget ears, hands, feet, shoulders, and behind the neck!
